Tyler Bate becomes first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion

On a weekend that was packed full of history making moments a 19 Year old from Dudley, England has cemented his name in the wrestling world forever. Tyler Bate defeated Pete Dunne in the final of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament in Blackpool to become the first ever WWE UK Champion. The weekend saw many surprises from the controversial finish to the match between Danny Burch and Jordan Devlin in which Burch received a nasty gash to the back of the head which seemed to lead to some confusion as to wether or not the referee missed his kick out attempt in time for the three count to the surprise inclusion of NXT singing Tommy End facing off against Neville in a non-tournament match up.

nevilletommyIt was the 19 year old Tyler Bate who stole headlines in the end though after a tremendous Tournament impressing fans with every segment and match he was involved in.

One of the stars that really shone bright was his final opponent Pete Dunne, who himself had a very newsworthy run in the Tournament after quickly becoming the weekends biggest villain. Dunne started Night 2 of the Tournament with his name on most peoples lips after taking out Joseph Conners at the end of the first event. The “Bruiserweight” went on to beat Conners in the Quarter finals and then successfully defeated the popular Welsh high flyer Mark Andrews in a fantastic Semi Final match.

We have to congratulate WWE on a very well put together weekend of shows and all of the performers who stole the spotlight from the WWE Superstars in America on Raw, Smackdown and NXT.

There have been rumours for years about the UK possibly getting it’s own home grown division within WWE and it previously hadn’t seemed viable but since the rise in attendance, popularity and quality of British independent wrestling over the past few years combined with the growth of the WWE Network after it’s successful attempts at creating other spin off Brands such as NXT, CWC and now 205 Live, it now seems that this could definitely be a venture worth committing to for the Sports Entertainment giants. A British Territory for WWE could be the starting point for the company having fruitful territories all over the world in their biggest markets such as Mexico, Canada and Japan.

There is a full review of the Tournament on this episode of the Talk and Beans podcast.

WWE announce two day tournament to crown first ever WWE UK Champion

The WWE have just taken their claim as the world leaders in sports entertainment to the next level by officially announcing in London that they will be holding a two day tournament in Blackpool at the historic Empress Ballroom to crown the first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion. Tickets are already on sale for the event that will take place on Saturday January 14 and Sunday January 15, 2017. We have to admit that this Championship title looks beautiful, it’s got the signature look from this era of the WWE but has a classic and very British feel to it as well with the crest on the centre plate.wweuktitle

Triple H was in attendance at The O2 in London to make this historic announcement as he continues to be the face of all things WWE as far as expansion and development. The 14x WWE Champion has played a major part in things such as the WWE Performance Center, the growth of NXT, the Cruiserweight Classic and consequently the birth of 205 Live.

hhhwweukThe WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative has also stated that “The tournament is the next step in our ongoing strategy to create localized content for our global WWE Network, develop another brand that engages our passionate fans, and add a new dimension to our on-going storylines.” in a statement released today.

Another man who has been a key figure in those ventures for the WWE has been Britain’s own William Regal, who was also in attendance introducing some of the names we are going to see in January on the WWE Network.

The tournament will feature 16 competitors over two days in a single elimination event and will feature talent from all four of the Home Nations and Ireland. The 16 men that hope to make history are Pete Dunne, Saxon Huxley, Trent Seven, Jack StarzWolfgangRoy Johnson, James DrakeJordan DevlinTyler BateSam Gradwell, Joseph ConnersTyson T. BoneHC DyerDan MoloneyChris TylerRingo RyanTiger Ali and Tucker.

During the press Conference Regal also joked that the location of the two day event may have been so that he could “go home for a few days” to his beloved Blackpool. Another key announcement today was given to us by Senior Broadcaster Michael Cole, who introduced the world to the newest member of the WWE Broadcasting team Nigel McGuinness. The British legend spoke of his personal dream to some day work for the WWE, a passion that has been burning inside the man since he attended Summerslam in 1992 at the old Wembley Stadium.

Tickets for the historic event are now on sale at Ticketmaster and we reckon this is a weekend not worth missing if you are a die hard wrestling fan.

WWE unveil new “Universal Championship” title

The “Biggest party of the summer” has been and gone for 2016 and the event brought us a lot of action including a new championship title. Raw had needed a new main event championship since Smackdown had drafted the WWE Champion Dean Ambrose last month. The match to decide who would be crowned the first champion was at this years WWE Summerslam where Finn Balor took on Seth Rollins.

Before the match Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley unveiled the new title to the WWE Universe, with a design that resembles the current WWE World Heavyweight Championship the Raw brand is well represented on their new title with the strap being red. Finn Balor defeated Seth Rollins to become the first ever champion in a moment that will go down in history, not only is the Irishman the first ever holder of the new championship but he is also the first wrestler to win a major title in his PPV debut.

The show also saw a gruesome ending to the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton match, the two veterans battled in the match that had been 15 years in the making. Lesnar viciously busted Orton open and the match ended in TKO decision and a win for Dean Ambrose against the ‘Showoff’ Dolph Ziggler in the Smackdown World title match.
