REVIEW: Avenged Sevenfold – The O2 Arena, London, (21/01/17)

BEST GIG EVER! That is the only way I can describe how incredible Avenged Sevenfold  were. Absolutely flawless from the first note of The Stage to the final note of Unholy Confessions. They spanned all 17 years as a band as they played hits from all of their albums, Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Waking The Fallen, City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare, Hail To The King and The Stage. They took the entire crowd, of 17,000 strong on a visual journey with their new CGI graphics, and in the form of a floating cube above the stage. New drummer Brooks Wackerman was that good, you would have thought The Rev was sitting back behind the kit.

The night started with me being ill in bed, and dragging myself up and out of the house unfortunately we missed InFlames but I hear they were great! We arrived in time to catch the last 30 minutes of Disturbed who were absolutely incredible! David Draiman had the audience in the palm of his hand, and his near perfect vocals sounded absolutely beautiful, Damn, that man can sing! The audience went nuts for Stricken and then for their final hit  Down With The Sickness. I would definitely go back to seeing them again.

Then come the band the entire crowd waited for. Avenged Sevenfold, a band I’ve been lucky enough to see now on three occasions. I think this may have been the best of the lot though. An incredible performance, from an incredible band. They are quickly showing why they are going to be one of those bands who stand the test of time, I, for one, hope this band stick around for a very long time, and don’t think it will be long before they’re playing Stadium shows.

Thank you A7X  for an amazing night, M Shadows, Johnny Christ, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Brooks Wackerman you all did Jimmy proud tonight!

Until next time!

AVENGED SEVENFOLD “SURPRISE-RELEASE” NEW ALBUM ‘THE STAGE’

a7x-2016

Avenged Sevenfold have become the first ever rock band to drop an unannounced album as both a digital and physical release.

The band announces the release of the album immediately following their groundbreaking global virtual reality event.

The Stage, is A7X‘s seventh studio album, and their first for Capitol Records.

The Southern California-based quintet (vocalist M. Shadows, guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman) revealed the news at midnight eastern, surprising the millions of fans who were watching their live-streamed performance from the rooftop of the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, CA.

The groundbreaking event saw the band give a 3D/360-degree live-streamed virtual reality performance, enabling fans around the globe to view the show on Universal Music Group’s newly released VRTGO VR platform, powered by VRLIVE’s advanced technology, and experience Avenged Sevenfold’s electrifying set as if they were there for this first-of-its-kind immersive event.

Fans attended the event in-person, flooding the streets and sidewalks around the tower to experience a concert amplified by augmented reality (AR) technology, which intensifies real-world environmental elements with computer-generated sensory input such as graphics, video and sound to enhance the live experience. VRLIVE streamed the event to 50 Samsung Gear VR headsets on the ground level of the event for fans to virtually transport themselves to the stage. Afterward, the band celebrated with fans, taking photos and sharing stories about the secretive release.

The Stage is the follow-up to Avenged Sevenfold’s 2013 release, Hail To The King, which entered The Billboard 200 at No. 1. Co-produced by the band and Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool), The Stage is a work of immense scope and ambition, featuring 11 panoramic tracks tied together by an Artificial Intelligence theme. Inspired by the writings of Carl Sagan and Elon Musk, the album is the band’s first thematic release. While the term “AI” conjures up images of robots and fantasy films, the band steers clear of a science fiction storyline. Instead, the album sees them taking a futurist’s look at the accelerated rate at which technology’s intelligence is expanding and what that means—good and bad—for the future.

The album’s epic 15-minute-plus closing track, “Exist,” features a guest appearance by award-winning astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson giving a spoken word performance he penned specifically for the album.

Working with new label Capitol Records, the band’s plans for a stealth release were months in the making, and kicked off a few weeks ago with a guerrilla campaign that saw projections of their deathbat symbol mysteriously appearing on landmarks around the world. Fans and media reported sightings and shared images from Paris, Sydney, London, Japan and Berlin, to name but a few. Anticipation and conspiracy theories reached fever pitch when rumours regarding supposed album titles and a December release date began to spread.
The album also marks the band’s first release with acclaimed drummer Brooks Wackerman, known for his work with Bad Religion and whose discography also includes albums from Tenacious D and Suicidal Tendencies.

Blink-182 Recreate What’s My Age Again video for She’s Out of Her Mind.

Blink-182 have recreated their “What’s My Age Again?” video for their new video “She’s Out of Her Mind.” The video is part of Spotify’s new Flash Frame series which will celebrate various musicians’ careers.

However, instead of it being the band running through the streets, it stars three female social media stars: Lele Pons, Hannah Stocking and Vale Genta. It also features comedian Adam Devine who makes a cameo as the “sexy nurse” whom the girls backtrack and try to get a glimpse of during their sprint.

Spotify’s Flash Frame series launched Thursday and will feature interviews with the band and performance footage. The show will celebrate the release of their 2016 Album ‘California’ and subsequent tour in support of the LP. The series will be separated into four chapters and feature Q&A’s with fans, private performances and stories behind classic clips like the one recreated in their newest video.

Finch vocalist says band are done as former band mates say he quit

Nate Barcalow recently posted that Finch were done playing together as a band in a statement released on his instagram account. The singer claimed that it was his only way to get his message out there as he had been “locked out of all Finch social media”. The vocalist went on to say that he was announcing this news with a “heavy heart” but explained that to him the creative endeavors had become less of a collection decision. Nate then stated that he was giving fans one last gift for all of their support:

In the summer of 2015 Finch had started working on a new record which has since been abandoned and left for dead…until now. I have decided that as a last gift to you all I am going to release the demos of these songs. I still believe in these ideas and think that they deserve to be heard (even in their most raw form). I have put them up on my YouTube channel with lyrics included, so go take a listen.

The demos can be found here.

Nate’s former band bands have now released a statement of their own claiming that they have not been able to contact their vocalist since January 2016 when he stopped contacting them after missing several band sessions in late 2015. Grizzly, Daniel and Pappas went on in the joint statement to explain that they have had to turn down many tour offers and estival appearances because they couldn’t reach their bandmate. The guys also stated that it was Nate not agreeing with the new direction of the bands sound that made him leave and emphasised that they were disappointed in their vocalist quitting the band for a third time and made reference to him leaving previously in 2004 and 2009.

Not to be outdone with gifts for their fans, the other band members also gave out some new music which are on their YouTube channel and are two brand new songs that the band had been sitting on that demonstrate the stylistic change in the bands sound. you can listen to these tracks here.

The full statement from the band is as follows;

Within the last 10 years Finch has only released ONE full length album… That can’t be understated. In 2009, Nate walked away from an album and quit. Yesterday, Nate quit again, for the third time in the bands history (2004, 2009, & 2016). We all knew it was coming, it was not a shock. In 2015 we wrote a batch of songs, but did not have a completed album. We entered the studio with a producer friend of ours to work on some material that would complete the album and begin pre-production on the songs we already had. Nate was a no show for the majority of these sessions and chose to stop communicating with the band in January 2016. Throughout 2016 there have been tour offers we’ve had to pass on, festival appearances we’ve passed on because we were unable to reach Nate. I think it is important for Finch fans to know that we’ve always had the best intentions, we always strove to create the best songs we could, but you cannot control other peoples’ behavior. Nate’s choice to quit again is disappointing, but not unexpected.

We’re really proud of the last two songs we recorded as a band. In Nate’s mind the stylistic change was enough to throw away his career. We just thought they were great Finch songs. We’ve posted both them on the Finch youtube channel, and hope you enjoy them.

Cheers everybody! We’ll see y’all next year for the What It Is To Burn 15 year anniversary tour!

-Grizzly, Daniel, and Pappas

When we interviewed Nate and Grizzly last year we did ask them about the bands then recent reformation and referenced the two previous break ups and how they felt about this time round, which makes for a very interesting watch now listening to them discuss it in hindsight. Check it out below;

Avenged Sevenfold release awesome puppet show themed video for “The Stage”

The metalcore icons have released their latest music video for “The Stage” and it is awesome. The eerily shot intro of the video features punters attending and old fashioned puppet show in what looks like an A7X themed circus tent. The puppet show is called the “Professor Batz Fantastical History of the World” and depicts world wars, witch hunting, powerful monarchy and beheading. Thankfully, they’re just puppets this time round! The video hits a nice twist towards the end. Check it out below:

Could MCR be making a comeback?

55432d60d7466c2be0d928cb70b02389-d6zkcrzCould it be time to dust off the skinny jeans, T-Shirts, black wristbands and studded belts and starting to grow back the old ‘Emo Fringe?’ Well… No one actually knows!

All we do know is that Emo Kings My Chemical Romance have today posted a cryptic tweet with the piano intro to ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ followed by the date 09/23/16 …

No one knows what it’s about, but it coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the release of the Welcome To The Black Parade Album. There has been speculation all day as to whether it’s the band reforming, or whether it is something to do with the album.

Either Way (get it?) we’re looking forward to finding out on September 23rd
