Scholars are a 5 piece band based in London and formed in 2007, who have previously supported Twin Atlantic, are currently on tour with Natives and Blitz Kids.
Kicking their set off with Wreck from their Black And Blue EP released April 2013, the track has clean cut vocals and exceptional instrumentals, the posh lads definitely got it off to a great start.
A nice addition to their set was how they played songs from their old EP’s as well as their latest album release (Always Lead, Never Follow) and although they were known by very few people in the crowd they still got the room off their feet and getting involved.
Lead singer Sam even walked through the crowd a couple of times, wrapping his mic cable around groups of people in the process- but it was still a great complement to their set and kept people’s attention on the band the whole time.
They played 5 songs from their most recent album, and personally, I thought they had a much more mature sound to them with great harmonies from Sam (vocals), Mike (drums), Cal and Ethan (both guitar) throughout their set.
The majority of their songs have a somewhat energetic, get-off-your-feet feel to them, but Scaredy Cat is a lot slower and was a really good opportunity for Sam to express his raw talent, vocal ability, and striking falsettos. But you can’t forget about the others either, all of them had such great stage presence and were all equally talented.
The final track they performed was Fractures (again from Always Lead, Never Follow album), composed of yet another captivating chorus and their effort on-stage never faltered in the slightest. It ended their set on such a high and guaranteed a lot of new fans, promising things should be happening for these guys soon.
