After supporting the likes of We The Kings, Lower Than Atlantis, Mallory Knox and All Time Low- Blitz Kids have embarked on their 2nd, 10 day tour across the UK, kicking off in Plymouth…
Their 14 song set included singles from their most recent album, The Good Youth, and material from their older EPs. Kicking off their 1 hour 10 minute set with Sometimes and Run For Cover, guaranteed that the show got off to a good start, both songs included catchy, sing-a-long choruses which made everyone get off their feet for. Hearing the crowd join in with ‘all this time you never knew what it was like to be hated’ is something that you definitely have to experience live to understand how gratifying it is.
Now, it’s no secret that the split of My Chemical Romance back in 2013 was a great shame to the rock music industry and many people were disheartened. Blitz Kids were also among them thousands of people who was affected by the split of MCR so much to put in a one minute snippet of Im Not Okay (I Promise) from MCR’s 2004 album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Joe (vocals) and Jono (guitar) started the song by saying how ‘MCR were and still are the best band that ever existed’. It was yet another song on the set that everyone had involvement in.
The mix of old to new songs appeared really popular within the crowd as they haven’t performed them as much in previous tours and that was what their set was lacking, the most popular one seemed to be Strangers With Memories, dedicated to ‘those exes’, the crowd really got into this one and it It was nice to hear a band doing so many old songs on a tour to support their most recent album, it definitely broke up that feeling watching a band performing their full album for an hour and nothing more- When they performed; You’re Dead To Me, Strangers With Memories (both from their Never Die EP), Story (from their first full length album Vagrants and Vagabonds) and Maybe We’ll Die (from Scavengers EP) you could’ve been mistaken for thinking you were at their first tour back in 2012.
For the encore they performed All I Want and Perfect, both definitely have a certain feel good factor about them and they ended the night on a real high. Along with pretty much of all of Blitz Kids’ songs, All I Want had a really good chorus which is memorable and very popular within the cries. Perfect was also Blitz Kid’s most recent music video release.
The night overall was pretty faultless, the way the band present themselves and perform is something that you can’t criticize, their music is of a really high quality and Joe’s faultless, whole voice is what really makes Blitz Kids different from the rest.. They formed in 2006 and I really think (and hope) that it’s time for Blitz Kids to really break the music industry because their effort shouldn’t be unrecognised and their music is of a standard which is underrated in the alt-rock scene.
