London’s NFL games to expand to Four in 2017

London has been the host of regular-season NFL games since 2007 and they have been growing ever since with the popularity of the sport growing alongside it here in the UK. The next season will see the series grow to Four games, another step towards growth big enough this side of the pond to base a full time Team out of the United Kingdom.

The games played at Wembley Stadium in recent years have been attracting up to 80,000 fans and have been a great indicator to NFL bosses that the sport and their brand could thrive away from it’s native land. The plan for the future is rumoured to be a London based franchise playing it’s home schedule here by 2022.

A statement released by the NFL said that “London is an amazing city.  We have had tremendous support from our fans, from Mayor Khan and other government leaders and business partners, and we are looking forward to taking the next step in the UK by playing four games in London next season.”

The current London Mayor himself has weighed in on the project stating that“London staging a fourth NFL game is fantastic news – not only for the millions of sports fans who get to enjoy our iconic stadiums – but also because it confirms our status as the go-to choice for hosting the world’s biggest sporting events”.

The Teams and Venues will be announced on Tuesday 13th December and tickets will be on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday 15th December at 10am.
