ITV to bring back World of Sport Wrestling for special

ITV have announced that for the glory days of British wrestling will be back for one night only later this year. The show will feature British stars such as ‘The East End Butcher’ Sha Samuels, Dave Mastiff and ‘Viper’ Kimberly Benson in a two hour special that will be in front of a live audience. The show will also feature backstage segments that will enhance storylines and will feature arguably the greatest wrestling commentator of all time Jim Ross. The American veteran is sure to add some grandeur and spectacle to the project with his iconic enthusiasm for his work.
Tom Mclennan, Creative Director, ITV Studios Entertainment said: “World of Sport Wrestling was a major event for millions of families every Saturday afternoon for over 20 years.  I’m excited about bringing back this iconic brand and celebrating the best British wrestlers in the country.”

Why ITV didn’t try and capitalise one the last huge ‘boom era’ of the late 90s/early 2000s has been a question on the minds of every British wrestling fan for years now but we are glad to see it finally happen. The UK scene has been bursting with talent for so long without the mainstream attention it deserved and the past few years in particular has seen many of the UK scenes rising stars make it to the WWE, TNA, NJPW and various worldwide independents, which could have helped shine the light on the UK scene once again for the ITV bosses.

We are excited to see how this plays out and who else will be involved.
