Chris Cornell’s death being investigated as a possible suicide

Detroit Police have confirmed that they are currently investigating Chris Cornell’s untimely passing as a suicide. Officers were called to the hotel at the MGM Grand Casino in downtown Detroit and met with a friend of the singer who according to local news outlet WXYZ had been called by Chris’ wife to check on him and had found him in the en suite bathroom of the singers hotel room after having to force the door open.

Michael Woody, a spokesperson for the Detroit Police said that “When officers went to the room they found Chris Cornell laying in his bathroom, unresponsive and he had passed away. We are investigating it as a possible suicide but we need to wait on the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.” he also stated that whilst the Police could not release exact details as to why they were investigating the death as a possible suicide he did say that “basic things observed at the scene” lead them to do so when speaking to Associate Press. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office will be making an official determination about the cause of death.

Chris had seemed to be in high spirits about the Detroit show, tweeting this image before he was to go on stage.

Soundgarden performed just hours before the vocalist was found dead and it has emerged that the last song Chris Cornell ever performed was “Slaves & Bulldozers” which included a rendition of “In My Time of Dying“, a song by Led Zeppelin which comes from a gospel song also named “Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed” and has been performed by Bob Dylan.

The band had played the song live a number of times over the years but it is being looked at as something quite eerie considering the recent circumstances as the songs lyrics include “In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn / All I want for you to do is take my body home

Jesus, going to make up my dying bed/ Meet me, Jesus, meet me, Meet me in the middle of the air

“If my wings should fail me, Lord / Please meet me with another pair.

Whilst this does not confirm anything, it does raise some questions and even if it is a coincidence, it’s a strange one at that. We would once again like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of Chris Cornell.
