World of Sport Wrestling teams up with Impact for new series

After the success of the New Years Eve special from ITV it has been announced that World of Sport Wrestling will be returning for a 10-part series and will be working alongside Impact Wrestling, the American wrestling promotion aka TNA.

The first World of Sport branded Wrestling event in 30 years gained quite a lot of attention and has shown the ITV bosses that the brand still has some life with a mix of nostalgia and the current strength in the British wrestling scene, which is arguable the best it’s been since the original show ended in 1985. Director of Entertainment, ITV Studios Manchester, Tom Mclennan said “Britain’s wrestling scene is thriving and there has never been a better time to bring it back to ITV after a gap of 30 years”.

American wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett, who recently became the Chief Creative Officer of Impact Wrestling after spending some time away from the company he founded with his father in 2002 has said “The WOS brand is etched in professional wrestling tradition. My family’s lineage in the industry dates back 70-plus years, so I am honoured to revive the legacy of this historic British series“.

It is not currently known what the partnership between ITV and Anthem (owner of Impact Wrestling) will bring and wether or not toe World of Sport show will feature a mixed roster from both countries but this is looking like  a very significant move for both companies and the British wrestling scene in general.

What we do know at the moment is that more will be announced in an upcoming press conference on Monday and the first events will take place in Preston at the intimate Preston Guild
Hall on Thursday 25th May and Friday 26th May with tickets going on pre-sale on April 9th here.
